About this exclusive event

Your board.
Under pressure.
For real.

This is not another CPD talk following a set of PowerPoint slides. Because standard presentations cannot adequately prepare you for an emergency, there is no framework handout or anyone telling you what good looks like from the front of the room. The Boardroom Crisis Simulator instead puts you inside an active meeting where incomplete facts directly complicate your assigned roles. Facing this reality forces you to do the one thing most director development never practises: make decisions when it matters.

Over three hours, your board are tasked with working through a live regulatory crisis, addressing two escalation injects, which will then then lead naturally into a structured debrief that holds a mirror up to how the group actually behaved. The lessons you leave with are yours, drawn from your own decisions in the room.

Who should attend?

  • Non-executive directors across trust, fund, banking and private client firms
  • Independent directors on regulated entity boards
  • Chairs of boards and audit, risk and governance committees
  • Company secretaries and governance professionals
  • Compliance officers at board or near-board level
  • Senior executives who attend or report to the board
  • Anyone who wants to know how they behave when the pressure is real

How the morning unfolds

Three hours. One board. Every phase builds on the last.

Phase 01

Framing and role assignment

Once ground rules are established, the chair assigns each participant a confidential role card such as CFO or SID. Because every assignment carries a specific behavioural orientation, you do not choose your own seat.

25 min
Phase 02

The crisis lands

Overnight, a formal regulatory notification arrives alleging a material governance failure. The board convene without preparation, forcing you to manage the immediate fallout using entirely incomplete information.

45 min
Phase 03

Escalation inject

As regulatory pressure increases, a formal response becomes necessary. The situation then complicates further when a secondary problem such as a whistleblower surfaces, fundamentally altering the tension in the room.

45 min
Phase 04

Final decisions

The board must agree on actions and a formal governance response to determine the immediate path forward. Resolving inevitable disagreements requires difficult judgement calls that place your final position on the record under intense pressure.

20 min
Phase 05

Facilitated debrief

Structured reflection examines the specific behaviours observed during the simulation so you can extract practical lessons. This review is built entirely around what happened in your room – rather than relying on a standard framework.
