Chartered Governance Qualifying Programme

Seven papers make up the Chartered Governance Qualifying Programme qualification, which is divided into two levels, Part One and Part Two.

Part One

• Corporate Governance *
  Provides the necessary knowledge & skills for the company secretary to act as chief adviser to the board on best practice in corporate governance.
• Company Compliance and Administration
  Develops knowledge & skills to help Co Secs ensure the company operates in accordance with good governance principles & the regulations of the jurisdiction in which it operates.
• Interpreting Financial and Accounting Information
  Develops knowledge of finance and accounting and ability to interpret financial & accounting information when providing advice to the board in strategy development and/or decision-making.
• Company Law
  Provides knowledge & understanding of the legal framework governing business organisations. Also covers corporate governance & the relationship between company law & corporate governance.

* If you complete just the Corporate Governance Module of the CGI Qualifying Programme you can qualify for an Advanced Certificate in Corporate Governance.

Part Two

• Development of Strategy
  Covers the elements, processes & techniques involved in the development & implementation of organisational strategy.
• Risk Management
  Develop & extend students’ understanding of the discipline of risk management, including how risk management links to compliance management &complements effective corporate governance in organisations.
• Boardroom Dynamics
  Provides the knowledge, understanding & skills needed for the company secretary to support boardroom performance by enabling both effective individual behaviours & group processes.

Qualification details

• Qualification takes between three and five years to complete
• On completion of all seven papers, students receive Grad status, which is the first step on the road to achieving Chartered Status.
