Syllabus

Private client mastery grounded in CISI standards

The syllabus grounds investment principles in the context of risk and taxation to facilitate comprehensive planning. It is designed to develop the technical proficiency required to conduct customer fact-finds and prepare client profiles that align elicited information with customer-led constraints.

Office meeting
The syllabus is divided into seven core sections:
Section 1

Financial Advice within a Regulated Environment

Assesses the UK regulatory framework, including FSMA 2000, to interpret how governance rules and fiduciary responsibilities shape the provision of private client advice.

Section 2

Investment Taxation

Applies the UK tax system rules to investment decision-making, evaluating how residence status determines the tax efficiency of assets for individual clients.

Section 3

Financial Markets

Evaluates global market structures to justify investment decisions, assessing how specific trading risks in equity and bond markets influence portfolio suitability for private clients.

Section 4

Trusts and Trustees

Utilises UK trust law to evaluate the merits of different trust structures, determining how their specific taxation features support the achievement of client objectives.

Section 5

Financial Instruments and Products

Differentiates between a wide range of asset classes and retail products to ascertain their suitability for client portfolios based on specific risk and reward profiles.

Section 6

Principles of Financial Advice

Applies KYC principles to technical fact-finding, ensuring that client information directly informs the design of tailored objective-led investment strategies.

Section 7

Portfolio Performance and Review

Uses measurement tools to evaluate investment performance and review portfolio requirements in response to market movements and customer needs.

Personal coaching

The personal coaching element ensures that classroom time is spent where it matters most. Our expert tutor:

  • Dedicates time to the syllabus's most technically demanding areas, ensuring you can confidently apply taxation and performance measurement concepts directly to complex private client scenarios.
  • Finishes with the revision day that is dedicated to question practice, helping you refine your ability to approach the three-hour written exam with confidence.

My sessions are built around real-world experience and practical application. The goal is simple: to make your learning enjoyable and give you the best possible chance of exam success.
